The T61 type grid coupling, commonly referred to as a snake spring coupling, is a high-performance flexible shaft coupling engineered for the reliable transmission of torque in demanding industrial applications. It is part of the grid coupling family and is specifically designed to handle high torque loads while compensating for shaft misalignments and absorbing shock and vibration.
The T61 model features two precision-machined hubs with grooves, a high-strength serpentine spring (grid) element, and a vertically split steel cover that encloses the coupling. The split cover is bolted securely around the hubs and provides a closed environment for the lubricated grid, ensuring efficient operation and extended service life.
The distinctive serpentine (snake-like) spring grid is made of high-tensile alloy steel and is designed to flex within the hub grooves during operation. This flexibility allows the coupling to compensate for parallel, angular, and axial misalignments between connected shafts. It also acts as a mechanical fuse to absorb and dampen torsional vibrations and sudden shock loads, effectively protecting connected equipment such as motors, gearboxes, and pumps.
Unlike the T20 type, which uses a horizontally split cover, the T61 adopts a vertically split design that is especially useful for vertical or limited-space installations. This structure also enhances the ease of disassembly and maintenance without disturbing the alignment of the driving and driven equipment.
Key features and benefits of the T61 type grid coupling include:
High torque transmission capacity with compact design
Excellent vibration damping and shock absorption performance
Flexible compensation for angular, parallel, and axial misalignments
Vertically split cover for easy installation and maintenance
Durable spring element made of alloy steel, resistant to fatigue and wear
Effective lubrication system to extend service life and reduce maintenance frequency
The T61 grid coupling is widely used in heavy-duty machinery across industries such as metallurgy, mining, cement, chemical, and power generation. It is especially well-suited for applications that require continuous operation under variable loads and harsh environmental conditions.
